| Granite slabs come in two different thicknesses: ¾" and 1 ¼". When choosing ¾" granite, a common technique used to make it look thicker is double edge. Double edge technique involves gluing and polishing another piece of granite (belt) to the edge of the main slab in order to give the impression that the granite is thicker. This technique is used mainly for ¾" thick material. When choosing 1 ¼" granite, it is not necessary to use the double edge technique because the granite is thick enough as it is. The pros for choosing 1 ¼" granite include: i) the granite is stronger, more durable, and therefore less likely to break, and ii) there is no seam on the edge.
